What is NSW Order 45?

Order 45 is the updated health surveillance framework for NSW coal mine workers, replacing Order 43 from 1 January 2026. It sets out requirements for coal mining medicals, oversight, and employer responsibilities.

Does my business need an Approved Medical Practitioner?

Yes. NSW coal mining employers are required to appoint suitably qualified medical practitioners to provide oversight of worker health assessments in line with Order 45. 4cRisk can help you understand the changes within the Order 45 system and will actively support your business’s  Human Resources/Recruitment personnel.

At 4cRisk, processing your medical is of paramount importance. Most coal mining medicals are completed within 48–72 hours, depending on the assessment requirements and availability of testing. Candidates are encouraged to attend imaging and/or blood testing prior to the assessment to facilitate turnaround times of under 48 hours.
